Kindle Software Update

On Wednesday, Amazon released a new Kindle software update which will automatically be delivered to your Kindle. There is nothing that you need to do to receive the update because the Kindle automatically checks for and then uploads the updates when they become available. Amazon does say that your Kindle will update within the next few weeks but they include a link to instructions on how to upload the update right now which should take about ten minutes. I’m going to do the download myself since they’ve included a couple of pretty good updates. The updates include the following:

These updates are for the U.S. and Global Kindle

Built in PDF reader. Your Kindle will be able to display PDF documents natively which means that you can “carry and read all of your personal and professional documents on the go”.
Option to convert PDF files to Kindle format.
You will now have adjustable screen rotation which will allow you to rotate between portrait and landscape views manually.
Longer battery life. You will now be able to read up to 2 weeks without recharging – with your wireless turned off (you can read up to 1 week with the wireless turned on).

These updates are for the Kindle DX

Better cropping of PDF files
You will have the option to convert PDF files to Kindle format.
View pages for a longer period of time. Instead of switching to screensaver mode after 5 minutes, the Kindle DX will go to screensaver mode after 20 minutes.
