Kindle 2 Pros And Cons

I’m making this list of pros and cons of the Kindle 2 based on what Amazon has told us and from pictures that are available. If you’re still trying to decide to buy one or not, hopefully this will help you out. Once I get my hands on my new Kindle 2
Pros
- Just over 1/3 of an inch thick.
- Only 10.2 ounces – weighs less than most paperbacks.
- Get Books in under 60 seconds.
- Longer Battery Life – 25% longer than the original Kindle.
- More Storage – Holds over 1500 books.
- Page turns are 20% faster.
- Whispersync – this allows you to sync two or more Kindle devices.
- The five way rocker button should be an improvement over the rolling wheel for navigation.
- The head phone jack and on/off switch are now at the top of the Kindle which should provide easier access.
- Read to Me – New text to speech feature will read every book, blog, magazine and newspaper out loud to you. Although this is a pretty cool feature, not everyone is happy about it. Check this out…
- Over 230,000 books now available from Amazon along with many hundreds of thousands from other sources.
- 16 level gray scale screen as opposed to the 4 level gray scale on the Kindle 1. This will really improve picture viewing on your Kindle.
- The button placement seems to be a lot better from what I see in the pictures. Should make accidental page turning a thing of the past.
Cons
- The price is still $359.
- As far as I know there is still no option to put your books into folders.
- There is no slot for an SD card. Many consider this a downgrade. Even with the much larger storage capacity, it would still be nice to add more storage.
- There’s no cover included. This isn’t too much of a con for me since most Kindle owners have purchased a separate cover anyway.
- It’s still not available to the overseas market.
- No touchscreen yet – which may not be that bad of thing. Although the Sony e-book reader does have touch screen, it may be a good idea for Kindle to not include it yet since the technology isn’t really where it needs to be to combine touch screen and e-ink together. Maybe this will be on the Kindle 3.
- From what I’ve read, there seems to be no replaceable battery.
For the most part, I would say that the pros very much outweigh the cons but there are a couple that cancel each other out. These would be the longer battery life but no replaceable battery and the additional storage space but no SD card slot. Either way, I’m still looking forward to receiving my Kindle 2 in a couple of weeks and I’m sure that I’ll be very happy with it.

I have not purchased a Kindle yet, but am thinking about it. Can the books be deleted once you have read them?
