    Free Kindle Ebooks

    By Greg | November 10, 2008

I wrote a post a few weeks back about where you can find over 1 million ebooks to download to your Kindle 2 and I had mentioned a couple of sites that you could find free ebooks. I’ve had some people email me about finding more free ebooks so I thought that I would dedicate this post to where you can find FREE ebooks for your Kindle. This is just the start of the list, as I find more and more sources of free ebooks, I’ll add them to this list so make sure you come back on a regular basis so you can find more free material for your Kindle 2. Some of the links below are just free ebooks and may not necessarily be compatible with your Kindle but I’ll make sure to note the sources that are Kindle compatible.

    Here’s the list (so far):
    1. Amazon.com - What better place to start than right at Amazon. Here are some free Harlequin books from Amazon for those of you that may like the romance novels. There are eight free novels for you to download.
    2. freekindlebooks.org - this site offers thousands of free classic ebooks in Kindle compatible formats.
    3. Project Gutenberg - over 100,000 ebook titles available.
    4. Munsey’s - not as many ebooks available as the previous sites mentioned but still some good books in Kindle format.
    5. Fictionwise - over 15,000 ebooks in Kindle format as of December 2007 so there’s probably even more now.
    6. Manybooks.net - A large selection of ebooks and an easy to use site.  Books are downloadable in many formats including Kindle, of course.
    7. Feedbooks.com - Thousands of free ebooks available and you can publish and share your own content.
    8. Kindlelibrary.net - only $8.95 per year for full, unlimited access to over 500,000 titles.
    9. Webscriptions.net - a lot of free books here, many SciFi.  Not as many freebies as the other sites mentioned but definitely worth checking out.
    10. Baen.com - free and very inexpensive SciFi books for your Kindle. Thanks to Mike Bennett for free Kindle book source.
    11. Podiobooks.com - get “podcast versions” of serialized audiobooks for free.
    12. 4,600 Public Domain Books - These books are available directly from Amazon.com
    13. Freetechbooks.com - Great site for free tech books such as computer science, engineering and programming, textbooks and lecture notes.
    14. RobertBurtonRobinson.com - 5 Free Mystery/Suspense books for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks for the links to free ebooks. FYI, though, most books from Fictionwise are not free. They are usually reasonably priced … but not free.

Just surfed in, and now I am surfing out. Before I did, I just had to shout. Have you heard of a site that is more than alright. It’s called Free Book Quest, and you can put it to the test. Http://www.freebookquest.com
It can find a free book, so it deserves a look. I am not trying to be mean, just open it to your screen. Download a book or two, delete them when you are through. It is the greenest way to read, I hope these words you heed.

Also give grateware a chance (http://www.grateware.com), and lose that defensive stance. It’s a site about freeware, and it collects them without a care. They are all 100% free, so no police will you see. The authors gave them to the net, so just search for anything and you are set.

I don’t have a Kindle yet but I have been doing a lot of researching lately as I intend on getting one very soon. I thought I am thinking about holding out for the Kindle 3. Here are my thoughts:
The size of the screen you have now is great! - It fits perfectly into purses, carry on bags, etc - it is not bulky and is the reason people went to ereaders in the first place. Changing the screen to full size is not going to be great idea unless you are planning to make two versions, one full size with the new improvements and one with the current screen size and the new improvements.
Putting books into folders is a great idea especially for those of us who have to be organized! This is a must. Thanks for listening.
A color screen is also very good.
A Touch screen is great, however, I would recommend keeping the Qwerty keyboard and the scrolling keys on the side. Don’t get rid of features from Kindle2 that users loved.
Add a backlight that covers not only the edges of the screen but one that covers the entire reading area so that it can be used in dimly lit areas without disturbing others such as on airplanes.
SD card slot is a great expansion method that should be added.
Continue your wireless and your USB methods.

I am sincerely looking forward to hearing about the upcoming Kindle 3 to see how many of the innovations have been implemented. I am an avid reader and a tech geek so this gadget is perfect for me when the specs are right.
      Thanks
      Darlene
